Rhetorical Analysis Of Malcolm Xs The Ballot Or The Bullet

1964 was a presidential election year and Malcolm X a famous African American activist and member of Nation Of Islam gave a speech, â€Å"The Ballot or The Bullet† in Cleveland Ohio inside a methodist church. On how the people of color can use that election to an advantage to get what they have been fighting for. Using repetition, allusion, and a varied tone, Malcolm X pleads with people of color to stop trusting what the white people are promising and to educate themselves about who is actually with them and who would support them. Malcolm X most used line and famous in this speech, â€Å"the ballot or the bullet† he uses this wording to demonstrate the audience that they can either choose to vote or get killed. Question: Discuss about the Close Encounters for Communication in Relationships. Answer: Introduction: The primary goal of this research study is to assess the efficiency of married and unmarried couples. Both married and unmarried couples face issues regarding efficiency for which the below survey results were found. 50 couples, i.e. 100 people were involved in the survey so that the efficiency of Married couples vs. Unmarried ones can be assessed. Based on the scale, the couples were classified as efficient or inefficient. It is argued that communication has the ability to bring a couple closer or push them apart. According to the results in Figure 1, 85% of the people believe that after marriage, the communication has helped improve their efficiency. However, 15% of the respondents feel that there is more communication while the couple is unmarried. A majority of the married ones feel that it is easier to express and communicate as the married partners are good listeners. However, a small percentage of the unmarried ones stated that the partners made comments and put each other down. It is further argued that the partners need to have good listening skills and patience while withholding judgment and spending more energy on trying to understand. The unmarried couples were found more impulsive in nature that made it difficult for the partners to understand each other thereby increasing stress and reducing efficiency (Guerrero, Andersen, Afifi, 2013). It is argued that conflict is a natural and inevitable part of every human relationship. There are inevitable differences and it is necessary to handle such conflicts in a healthy manner. According to the results in Figure 2, 68% of the respondents believe that married couples handle conflict in a better way and find resolution. However, 32% of the respondents believe that the unmarried couples do not have a great way of handling conflict. The married couples stated that they are able to resolve the differences. In case of unmarried couples, the partner takes the disagreements seriously. It is argued that conflict must not be avoided as it damages a relationship. Building effective relationships affects efficiency in other aspects as it teaches the people to deal with the conflict rather than escaping from it (Worthington et al., 2015). Financial issues are one the most important concerns among the couples, whether married or unmarried. The partners often have disagreements when it is about monetary issues. However, it was found that 65% of the respondents felt that married couples manage their finances in a better way than the unmarried. The married couples have few concerns about debt and they know the proper amount to save. This is difficult in case of unmarried couples as they have low level of planning and 35% of the respondents feel that the same. The partners do not try to control the money in case of unmarried couples (Bisdee, Daly, Price, 2012). Couple flexibility refers to the level of changes and compromise can be made by the couple. It is important and challenging to adapt to the ever changing stress and challenges in the society. According to Figure 4, the couple flexibility among the married couples was more than the unmarried ones. 72% of the respondents believe that there is more flexibility and compromise among married couples that makes them efficient than the unmarried ones. It is argued that the unmarried couples do not make most decisions jointly. Therefore, 18% of the respondents believe that the unmarried couples are not able to adjust when necessary. It is argued that the relationships that do not balance well in times of compromise are inefficient. It is necessary to be adaptable in times of need. Also, the married ones were closer to their partners in comparison with the unmarried ones in terms of emotions (Busby, Larson, Halford, 2015). In terms of organization, it is found that married couples are more efficient than the unmarried ones. According to Figure 5, 80% of the respondents believe that the married ones are more organized. The things and plans are well-organized in comparison with the unmarried couples. 20% of the respondents believe that the unmarried couples are less organized and are haphazard in their ways in comparison with the married ones (Knudson-Martin, 2012). Therefore, the overall results indicate that the married couples are more efficient than the unmarried ones. Current Research in Astronomy Essay For many astronomers, Adaptive Optics is something like a dream coming true. Since 1609 and the first observations of celestial bodies performed with the help of an optical telescope, astronomers have always fought to improve the resolving power of their instruments. For a long time, engineers have trimmed the optical quality of the telescopes, until they finally reached the barrier set by the atmospheric turbulence. At that point, the intrinsic quality of the site became a major issue to establish new observatories with modern telescopes, and astronomers started to desert the urban skies and to migrate toward mountains and deserts (Alloin and Mariotti 2004 9). The recent emergence Adaptive optics aims at providing diffraction limited long exposure images at large telescopes, which is greatly considered as one of astronomy’s breakthrough (Alloin and Mariotti 2004 9; Espinosa 1997 12). By far, the largest limitation to the application of adaptive optics to astronomy is very limited sky coverage when using natural guide stars for wavefront sensing. Similar limitations existed for many military applications of adaptive optics (Espinosa 1997 12). Adaptive optics systems provide a real time correction of the distorted wavefronts; they restore all the properties of light prior to the final part of its travel through the atmosphere (Alloin and Mariotti 2004 9). Discussion Adaptive Optics: Wavefront and Laser Guide Star (LGS) Adaptive optic systems for atmospheric turbulence compensation require a reference star for correcting wavefront distortion. The sodium LGS relies on resonant backscattering of a laser tuned into the D2 sodium absorption line to provide a reference, but LGS must sufficiently bright to correct high order wavefront aberration (Zamorano, Gorgas and Gallego 2001 317). The key concept in adaptive optics is the wave front, which is found by tracing out an equal optical path (distance x refractive index) from a source to the region of interest. For a point source and free space, wavefronts are spherical, and for starlight, the distance is so large that for all practical purposes the wavefronts entering the Earth’s atmosphere are plane. After propagating through the random refractive index of the atmosphere, the wavefront entering the telescope pupil is random, and its statistics determine the image quality, and govern how an adaptive optical system might be used to compensate for the distortion (Agerorges 2000 4). Such effect greatly depends on the laser lunch power, polarization’s beam, atmospheric transmission and the sodium column density, which, if obtained appropriately, might even enhance the imagery, increase the scope of telescopic observatory, and improve the image details of pictures obtained from astronomical studies (Zamorano, Gorgas and Gallego 2001 317). The use of LGS AO has caught on quickly within the astronomical community in large part because, equipped with adaptive optics operating at the diffraction limit in the near-infrared, the new 6- to 10-m telescopes possess the capability to match the angular resolution in the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) in the visible and to exceed its resolution in the near infrared (Rodier 256). Laser Guide Star LGS, basically, is a technology that utilizes AO imaging in order to enhance graphical imagery of telescopes and view astronomical images with additional quality. The technology uses an artificial star in order to act as a wavefront reference source, which consequently corrects light distortion (Zamorano, Gorgas and Gallego 2001 317). The need for a bright stellar was always a concern for astronomical applications of adaptive optics. To operate, a wavefront sensor must have sufficient light to overcome photon noise and background noise with enough light left over to form the image. In astronomy, few stars of scientific interest are sufficiently bright. For imaging uncooperative satellites, reflected light is often too dim or nonexistent. In 1985, French astronomers Foy and Labeyrie published work detailing how one might use backscatter from a laser focused to a point in the atmosphere as an artificial beacon (a guide star) for astronomical adaptive optics. As work progressed in the astronomy community to build and test a laser powerful enough to have sufficient backscatter for the Foy-Labeyrie method (Tyson 2000 5). Since the beginning of the 1980s, classified U. S military work was addressing the problems of projecting high-energy laser beams from the ground to space for missile defense and secure communications. The research from 1982 at the U. S Air Force Starfire Optical Range (USAFSOR) directed by Robert Fugate advanced the laser guide star concept and produced a wealth information about laser performance requirements, adaptive optics system operation, atmospheric physics, and closed loop image of space borne objects. By 1991, the bulk of military work on laser guide starts was declassified and made available to astronomers around the world (Tyson 2000 5). Currently, LGS is being developed by various nations, setting up their own laser beacon and extensively enhancing research through the said technology. The use of a laser beacon as the reference source enables faint objects to be compensated by adaptive optics, at the expense of greater hardware complexity. The laser beacon must be directed within the isoplanatic angle of the science object at the observation wavelength; although, this procedure provide only short-exposure correction. On the other hand, a fixed natural guide star possesses the ability to further stabilized the image during long exposures so that sky coverage depends on the distribution of stars, which consequently enhances the space imagery (Hardy 1998 309). There are many cases where the object itself, such as a sunlit satellite, is insufficient for wavefront sensing. In astronomy, there are billions of stellar objects too dim for sensing and not near enough in the sky to bright objects. For high-energy laser propagation to uncooperative targets or satellite tracking and imaging, an artificial source must be placed above the atmosphere to provide photons for the wavefront sensor and subsequent compensation. Lasers actually provide only partial correction, because a natural star still is required and opposite tilt upon traveling up into the atmosphere and returning (Tyson 2000 6-7). Particularly exciting development is the use of adaptive telescope mirrors to compensate for the distortion of stellar images produced by atmospheric turbulence. Using adaptive optics, ground-based telescopes are now demonstrating diffraction-limited performance, albeit over relatively small fields of view. It can be expected that large ground-based telescopes will have higher resolution and light-gathering power than space-based telescopes, since both of these performance metrics depend on aperture size. Moreover, ground-based telescopes can be larger than those space-based ones; hence, enabling higher development and scope for stellar imagery. The adaptive optical system of LGS displays 0. 07-arcsecond resolution, which is almost a hundred times better than past ground-based telescope systems but uses a telescope built approximately 80 years ago (national Research Council 1998 137-138). Conclusion LGS AO is one of the breakthroughs of current astronomical imagery, which provides enhanced images and display features that are usually not present in the space-based telescopes, such as HCT. The mechanism involved utilizes a guide star or an artificial star that facilitates the graphical imagery. Do you know the process that goes into making silk? Many people over look this fine, luxurious garment. When I first heard that we had to do an I-search, I was overwhelmed by the choices. I made many changes before finally settling on this topic. When I first though of how to make silk, I didn't think that it would be that hard with the right tools. Although I knew that the fibers came from the silk worm's cocoon I still didn't know how they got it unraveled. I also thought that they only made silk in China. There are many things that I didn't know about making silk. When I thought of doing this topic I didn't think that it would be to easy either. I thought that I would have to go to more than one source to get the answer.I have one main goal for writing this I-search. That is because it is an assignment. If I wanted to know about this topic I wouldn't spend this much time on it.In the begging I wanted to do the topic "Is biological weapons worth the destruction that they cause on the planet?". Then I thought to myself, "There isn't a really right answer because everyone will have a different P.O.V. Now I had to come up with a better question, on that has a true answer. Then I thought to myself again, "Do you know how monorails work?". I didn't answer myself because then I would be crazy. But the first book I looked in I found the answer, so I dropped that idea. My last and final I-search topic would be, "How is silk made?". I think that that answer may be fairly easy to find, but it's a topic that interested me because my grandma has been to China and has seen that places where they (The Chinese) make the silk. She also showed me the cocoons that they take the thread from. On the first day that I started looking for the answer my English class went to the library. From there I combed the library for the answer. My first stop was an encyclopedia. The first random book that I pulled from the shelf was called Encyclopedia America. That one wasn't much help. It only told me how silk worms are cultivated. That didn't bother me much, because I was confident that I would find the answer still.

For us could seems (senseless) or irrational to us, we ought to find out why they behave that way.Every time we ask an honest, emphatic question â€Å"Why†, we ask may lead to a more accurate description of the reasons they chose to engage in difficult behaviors. Every accurate description of those behaviors can help us to develop a strategy for stopping or discouraging them. One story in the reading is about a group of employees learned this lesson when they asked the question â€Å"Why† one person refused to go along with the consensus and adamantly refuse to accept t he design favored by the rest of the group.Her† difficult behavior† created considerable conflict and criticism, but she held firm, seeming to enjoy the conflict and smiling as she stood her ground. By asking â€Å"Why† and other open-ended questions, they discovered that her real issue had nothing to do with her design of the coordinating committee, but concerned her work team where she had been unsuccessful in raising or solving the problem. Another important point that I read was, that sometimes family or co-workers engage in difficult behavior because they have family problems at home.One example, I recall when I was supervising this person with a difficult behavior, I found out she was having personal problems, I never asked the question â€Å"why†. Perhaps if I would have the knowledge of this book â€Å"Resolving conflicts at work†, it could be easier for me to work with this person. What the author want us to believe is to understand better, why people behave that way, never to blame them for their difficult personally. Moreover, not regarding their negative behavior, but honestly calling attention to the difficulties it creates for us.One of the patterns I have discovered in the reading was that we would find people with this kind of difficult behavior in our job, co-workers and our own families; I read that difficult behaviors start in the family. Some of these difficult behaviors probably began long before we entered in their lives. Another important point in â€Å" The ten strategies† talks about some difficult behaviors people have since childhood, they follow a pattern because no one resolved their conflicts before. Resolving conflicts at work† strategy 7 we also learned how to understand people with difficult behaviors, bust also talks about methods for changing difficult behaviors. By focusing on the behaviors of the others, offering empathetic feedback, ceasing to reward their behaviors, and search ing for collaborative solutions, it is possible for us to shift from feeling hopeless in our conflicts to being strategic about them. The follow methods can help us to become more strategic in our response to difficult behaviors.They developed these methods to support the staff of a large U. S. government agency in changing their focus defining their problems as difficult people and personalities to identifying the chronic behavioral problems within the organization and developing the skills, they needed to address them. These are only a few of the methods. * Surfacing the conflict: They began by interviewing the staff about their experiences with conflicts in the work place.Summarized the main issues and distributed their comments to everyone without censoring or watering them down. They make a list of all the problems that needed to be solved and placed them on the table for discussion, negotiation, and problem solving. * Conflict coaching: It talks about coaching the leadership t eam in the organization on how best to respond to conflicts and the difficult behaviors that created them, how to model openness to criticism, how to be strategic by not rewarding them, and how to reward honest, empathetic communications instead. Teamwork: By having a group conflict resolution session, they assigned everyone to random teams and asked them to read the comments from the interviews. I believed in today’s competitive workplace, your ability to communicate is the most important business skill. After reading this book, â€Å"Resolving conflicts at work†, I am planning to use these strategies when I need to resolve a conflict at work. One of my questions is â€Å"How can we resolve our conflicts with our own brothers and sisters†.

The TV show Jersey Shore is a show where there are eight people living in a house and they go partying every night and they are all obsessed with the way they look. The TV show Jersey Shore represents the theme of Narcissism because the cast members of Jersey shore are all obsessed with the way they look, they go to the gym every day, they spend way too much time on their hair and on their clothes. The theme â€Å"When Love Goes Wrong† is explaining to us when we should know that your relationship is not good anymore and if we realize these things happening in our relationship, we should get out of the relationship. The song The Best Days of Your Life is about a guy cheating on his girlfriend and he got the other girl pregnant. His girlfriend is now trying to get over him. The song The Best Days of Your Life represents the theme â€Å"When Love Goes Wrong† because the couple in the song, their relationship was ruined when the boyfriend cheated on his girlfriend. The theme of inclusivity is including everyone and making them feel welcome even if you aren’t best friends with them. The picture I chose of children playing shows the three children sitting down playing and one child standing and it represents the three children letting the one child play with them. The picture of children playing represents the theme of Inclusivity because these children are letting the one child play with them even though they may not like that child, they are being nice and letting him play with them, because they are doing the catholic thing to do by letting him play with them.
